Hey, Michael is here. First of all, thank you for using our page builder for your themes and clients projects. There have been few pretty big changes that raised a lot of confusion. And I feel that I owe you an explanation.

But first, the most important part. Please update your item description page to reflect the changes in product naming. Replace “Visual Composer” text and logo with “WPBakery Page Builder”. This will help us a lot and will significantly decrease frustration among your current and potential customers.

Easy as that, but a big difference for the users. And below you will find an explanation that is behind our decisions.

So why we rebranded?

As you may know on 1st of November 2017 envato updated their exclusivity policy. The policy itself resonated a lot within the community and we were among the authors who were affected by this change.

When the policy change was announced back in August 2017 we have been working for more than a year on our new product “Visual Composer Website Builder”. Our goal was to have two products. “Visual Composer Page Builder” and “Visual Composer Website Builder“. Two separate products with a completely different codebase released under the one trademark and serving different needs.

  • Page Builder for “content” area of your WordPress
  • Website Builder for the whole website (including headers, footers, and other “template parts” of your WordPress website)

Due to the change in policy, we couldn’t use the same trademark for both products and decided to rebrand old and well-known plugin to “WPBakery Page Builder” plugin. And as of 13.10.2017, it’s available under the new name but with the same set of features and support from the team. WPBakery team will ensure its further development and it will be compatible with Gutenberg and other future WordPress releases.

What about the Website Builder?

The new product “Visual Composer Website Builder” was launched outside the marketplace on 04.08.2017.

And 5 months later, on 19.01.2018 we received a penalty from envato and our account was downgraded to “non-exclusive” even though our products have 100% unique codebase and operated by different legal entities.

As a result, WPBakery Page Builder is now available on his own website and CC.

Thank you for reading and GLWS 🙂
