WPBakery joins WP Credits in support of WordPress and new contributors

WPBakery is proud to announce that we decided to join the WP Credits program, as an effort support of WordPress education and help teach the next generation of future contributors.

What is the WP Credits program?

As stated on the Learn WordPress site itself:

“WordPress Credits is a contribution-based program supported by the WordPress Foundation that brings students into the heart of the WordPress open source project.”

The program combines structured learning, hands-on work and mentorship with the goal of spreading the use and value of WordPress to the next generation of young minds and people who can do great things with it. Students who join (through partner universities who want to integrate WordPress into their curriculum) don’t just study WordPress – they actively participate in it, learn how contributions work, document it and publish their progress as part of the global community. And, given that WordPress itself is an open-source, WP Credits is not owned or led by individual companies. It is an idea that turned into a full program that brings together mentors, educators and organizations from across the ecosystem who are willing to invest time and resources in helping new contributors get started.

Why WPBakery joined WP Credits

Ever since WordCamp Europe 2025 where the very idea of WP Credits was introduced by Matt Mullenweg, we knew we wanted to be a part of it somehow. After learning more about it, we were more than happy and willing to join and support this cause, starting with our marketing team member, Ivana Ćirković, who became one of the mentors just this past December. It is our way of adding more value to WordPress, giving back more through educating the next generation of everyday WordPress users.

WPBakery is a tool built for people who need to build professional WordPress websites quickly – whether they are non-tech or experienced WordPress users. We’re participating in WP Credits because WordPress grows through people who learn it, use it and eventually contribute back to it. Programs like WP Credits help students understand WordPress as an open-source project and give them a structured way to take their first steps into contribution – with mentorship and real participation.

WPBakery’s role in the program is transparent: our team member is participating as an official mentor, supporting students throughout the program. As a company, we’re backing an initiative that helps people learn how WordPress works and how contributions happen in practice. Additionally, we’re providing free WPBakery licenses to student participants, so anyone can try a professional site-building workflow as part of their learning journey.

Students are not expected to use the WPBakery Page Builder plugin. The license is simply there as an option for them to use, if they choose – without pressure.

Why initiatives like WP Credits matter

WordPress exists and continues to grow because people are willing to contribute – time, skills and knowledge. Programs like WP Credits are one of the ways that lower the barrier to entry for new contributors by combining education, mentorship and genuine participation. It’s what help ensure that WordPress continues to grow not only as software, but as a community.

WPBakery is glad to be part of this effort, alongside others across the ecosystem, by contributing mentor time and tool access to support students as they take their first steps into open-source contribution. As this initiative is in its early stages, we look forward to sharing news and milestones as they come and we invite you to follow us while we do so.
